Aurobindo Pharma undertook a project called GAMYAM - Digitalization of Transport management and Logistics functions. The pharmaceutical company had in place a manual process for logistic planning and operations. This required managing logistic operations and process manually sourcing, rate card approval, planning, tracking, invoice approval and settlement. This lead to insufficient audit trail for any work flow or review, lack of internal control for linking end to end operation of logistic with invoice settlement missing documents shared manually /email. There was also of single repository for all documentation and sharing of the same across teams. This lead to higher cost of operation- more no of FTEs due to manual process.
The company implementation a transport management solution on cloud and integration with the on premise ERP and custom application EMS. The pre and post shipment process was automated and a single source of repository of all documents was also created. Automation of the end-to-end process has been achieved by the company. GAMYAM also reduced the freight cost by 5 percent to 10 percent because of better planning and visibility of logistics operations.
