The bank issues different types of prepaid cards like Single/Multi currency forex cards, gift cards, food plus cards etc. The system supporting this line of business was hosted at a datacentre as a managed service.
All the IT activities and few operational activities such as reconciliation and PIN printing were carried out by the services at their premises. Operations and customer support activities for card issuance, reload, customer servicing, activation, refund etc. were carried out by Bank’s team.
With increasing focus on business growth and increased focus on PCI compliance and security, it was imperative that the systems be fully managed by the bank. This also targeted to eliminate challenges of a hosted setup such as shared infrastructure in public datacentre, lack of visibility and controls deployed etc.
Major activities to ensure successful migration of prepaid card In-house project meant meeting key objectives of establishing a link between the managed services and bank DC and secondly setup the database replication from managed services to Bank systems in advance, before migration.
It was also ensured that all the Card, PIN, Keys related data and all authentication and authorization was done using the bank’s systems. For the outage during migration, advance Customer communications was done multiple times through SMS and email so that customers could plan their activities.
Migration was completed as planned without any issues. It is one of the unique migrations carried out in a way to have least customer impact and gain full control on the sensitive data.
