The future is 3D Printing: Guruprasad Rao, Imaginarium

Guruprasad Rao began his career over 30 years ago and is an expert on industrial and product design, innovation, design thinking and engineering. He holds a PhD in product design from IIT Bombay and is currently the director and mentor of the leadership team at Imaginarium India, Asia’s largest 3D printing company.

Currently focusing on building Imaginarium Academy and Technology, his industrial assignments include Titan, Tanishq and Crompton Greaves.

Additionally, he has taught design at NIFT, IICD, IISc, JSSATE and NTTF. Rao is the recipient of several awards including three gold medallions.  As an accomplished industrial designer, he holds eight patents and has over 100 design registrations.

His research interests include product design, product aesthetics, design management, and 3D printing and its applications in medical domain.

At CIO Year Ahead 2018, Rao will be addressing top IT leaders on the future of technology and how the Indian enterprise can leverage 3D printing effectively.

He is a member of several committees including FICCI capital goods committee, academic curriculum committee at DJSCE of Mumbai, Board of Studies at NIT Warangal, and Board of Studies at Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering.

In addition to being Imaginarium’s mentor, he also mentors at KIIT Technology Business Incubator Bhubaneswar and SIBD at AIIMS, New Delhi. Rao is also a mentor at SINE, IIT Bombay and an active member of NASSCOM Sector Skill Council and has been contributing in their product engineer certification rollout.

He shares his keen interest in learning and knowledge sharing effectively with his network. He is also passionate about sharing his rich experience and has delivered many talks and keynote addresses. His hobbies span across electronics, ham radio, astronomy, painting, photography, jewellery design, model making and cooking.
