Mobility is rapidly changing the look of the business. In an increasingly mobile world, every business today requires communication systems that allow its employees to not only work anytime, but they provide all the required tools to get the job done.  

At the 11th edition of IDG’s CIO Year Ahead, mobility is one of the five important themes, which will be instrumental in deciding the IT roadmap for the future.

It is estimated that by 2018, there will be around 2.8 million employees depending on smartphones within the work sphere. The mobility market was not available in 2010, but now millions of people use tablets and other mobile devices in the enterprises every day.

Enterprise mobility gives employees flexibility and choice, which improves job satisfaction and increases productivity. In the early days, the employers were given a personal digital assistant like a Palmtop (A device) or a Blackberry smartphones, these devices gave access to email, calendars and contacts, which was very limited. But now the devices can perform major tasks, through their mobile device.

When Apple and Android phones were launched, there were many developers who built apps for enterprises and the (BYOD) bring your own device trend was born. Many employees began using their private smartphone and Macbook for official uses, without their employers’ permission, because these devices were quick and with easy interface, the work used to get done quicker.

According to Gallup survey, by the 2017, 43 percent of American workers started to spend increasingly more time out of the office. They worked remotely on at least a part time basis.

As more consumers purchased these smartphones, and as more developers built enterprise apps for them, and the ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) trend was born. Employees began using their personal smartphones for work -- often without employer permission -- because the devices and their apps enabled them to do their jobs more quickly and with a more streamlined user interface.

At the same time, American workers started to spend increasingly more time out of the office. By 2017, 43% worked remotely on at least a part-time basis, according to a Gallup survey.

Many enterprises are now, taking further step and ordering a specific device for their employees, which is now curated and it can only do what they require to do. And also putting a limitation to company use.

The investment into enterprise mobility has made business process rapidly and running in real time. It has reduced operational costs and has shown much positive response.
