When the need for architectural improvements is unavoidable, the on-demand provisioning of Unix servers may not be the best way out. This paper explains the advantages of using IBM Power Systems in-place upgrades and the leasing model. The in-place upgrade approach proves to be an inexpensive method to upgrade old servers, say analysts at Robert Frances Group, a research and consulting firm focused on the IT workplace. It can reduce both capital and operational expenditures through benefits that include curtailing floor space expansion and eliminating the administrative overhead of added server configurations, they say.
