GHY International - a customs brokerage services firm was looking to update its IT infrastructure to make room for business growth. Specifically, the solution had to priovide additional compute capacity, a centralized SAN to increase storage scalability, virtualization for the windows environment and ease of IT managing. Apart from saving GHY hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and application fees, the IBM Power 7 solution has helped the four-person IT team cut down time spent on server management from ninety five percent to just five percent. With three operating systems running on one box, floor space, electricity consumption and cooling requirements are also reduced.

The Core Policy Department of DIISR (Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research) in Australia was experiencing rapid rates of growth in data volumes, with around 60 percent annual growth. The new requirements made it vital to find the means to significantly increase SAN capacity while ensuring the continued ability to scale adequately. A further challenge was the significant limitation on space and electrical power in the existing datacenters. The deployment of IBM's XIV storage system made it easier and more cost-effective for DIISR to achieve compliance with these regulations, with features such as remote mirroring and snapshotting.

The XIV storage system met all of these requirements, and at a much lower cost than upgrading its existing SAN.
