Sponsored by IBMThe Evolution of the Datacenter and the Need for a Converged Infrastructure
A case study on inIn many enterprise datacenters, virtualization and blade computing have become key technologies deployed by the IT department in an effort to consolidate resources and cut costs while still providing increasing service-level agreements (SLAs) and supporting an expanding workload base.
The continued adoption of virtualization in the datacenter has profoundly changed how IT delivers services. As a consequence of virtualization, IT needs to adopt management tools and automation throughout the datacenter. This Whitepaper looks at the challenges and benefits of moving to virtualization.

A case study on Infrastructure Management in BrokerageGHY International - a customs brokerage services firm was looking to update its IT infrastructure to make room for business growth. Specifically, the solution had to priovide additional compute capacity, a centralized SAN to increase storage scalability, virtualization for the windows environment and ease of IT managing. Apart from saving GHY hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and application fees, the IBM Power 7 solution has helped the four-person IT team cut down time spent on server management from ninety five percent to just five percent. With three operating systems running on one box, floor space, electricity consumption and cooling requirements are also reduced.
Sponsored by IBMDIISR Shrinks Power Costs with IBM XIV Storage System
A case study on Storage in GovernmentThe Core Policy Department of DIISR (Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research) in Australia was experiencing rapid rates of growth in data volumes, with around 60 percent annual growth. The new requirements made it vital to find the means to significantly increase SAN capacity while ensuring the continued ability to scale adequately. A further challenge was the significant limitation on space and electrical power in the existing datacenters. The deployment of IBM's XIV storage system made it easier and more cost-effective for DIISR to achieve compliance with these regulations, with features such as remote mirroring and snapshotting.
The XIV storage system met all of these requirements, and at a much lower cost than upgrading its existing SAN.
Bezeq Benefits from IBM’s High-Performance, Cost-Effective Storage System
A case study on Internet in TelecomFor Bezeq International, one of Israel's leading providers of broadband Internet services and global telecommunication solutions, the most pressing challenge was to ensure that their storage solutions were in sync with the huge surge in complex services, and ensuring that these solutions were cost-effective. Bezeq launched its IBM XIV storage solution by deploying a single system for peripheral enterprise storage needs.
Read on to know how within months of adding the XIV storage system to its storage assets, the system successfully met the department's criteria for performance, reliability, and manageability.

Application Management: Benchmark Executive Summary
A case study on Applications in TelecomIBM in association with the Bathwick group surveyed 600 IT and business decision makers in seven countries and across six industries.
The research was designed to examine the challenges and opportunities faced by IT and business decision‐makers in delivering application and business services that are able to keep pace with the evolving requirements and challenges in their respective industries. It is clear from the research that the way organizations manage their application portfolios and the processes that
govern them determines the extent to which key applications enable or inhibit change. That's why it is essential that organizations examine, benchmark and adopt processes that ensure their application portfolios are managed in ways that maximize flexibility and return on investment.
