APC Wins Green Enterprise IT Award
Added 8th Jun 2009The GEIT Awards honor companies that have a made significant contribution to creating reliable, sustainable and energy-efficient data centres. APC's InRow cooling products with active response controls and integrated thermal containment was selected as a winner for its innovation and leadership in driving sustainability initiatives.
"In Australia and New Zealand we have numerous customer sites, with references in all industry sectors, using InRow cooling and continue to see more customers look to improve energy efficiency in their data centres. This award recognises our continued commitment to providing the best data centre products and solutions to support our customers' initiatives to achieve efficiency," said Gordon Makryllos, Vice President, Pacific & Country General Manager.
According to Will Dodolias, AP Technical Infrastructure Manager for Novell, an APC customer, "Reducing the amount of energy our data centre consumes is not only important in fulfilling our environmental responsibilities but it also makes good business sense. APC's InRow cooling solution provided us with dramatic power efficiency gains, reducing our power consumption related to cooling by 30 per cent."
Greg Boorer, from the Canberra Data Centre, another APC customer said "Against predictions that power bills will rise between 50 and 100 per cent in the next five years, APC's InRow solution has saved CDC and our clients up to 65 per cent in power and associated carbon footprint reduction."
"We congratulate and honor APC for its pioneering work in reducing energy consumption in data centres," said Kenneth G. Brill, founder and executive director of the Uptime Institute. "APC's successful initiatives serve as a great example to its industry peers of the realistic impact and feasibility of energy efficiency initiatives."
"It is worrying to know the amount of energy that gets wasted in a data center due to lack of proper architecture planning. Close to 40 percent of energy that flows into a data center goes towards power and cooling solutions. Energy efficient solutions in this space such as APC's InRow Cooling play a very critical role in achieving overall data center efficiency. APC and Schneider Electric together have over 100 years of experience in energy management and our modular, scalable, 'plug and play' solutions are not just easy to adopt but also help customers achieve optimized TCO, reduce energy wastage and make a difference to our valuable planet, which are more important than ever before" said Mr. Srinivas Chebbi, CGM & VP - ISB Region
All GEIT Awards winners presented case studies of their initiatives for addressing the data centre energy efficiency challenge at the Institute's symposium. APC shared lessons learned and its route to success to encourage industry peers to become advocates of change in their own organizations. The GEIT Awards judging criteria were specifically designed to select projects with potential to serve as business case studies of the realistic impact and feasibility of energy efficiency initiatives.
