Brocade Expands To IP Networking To Grow Further
Added 12th Aug 2009Through its acquisition of Foundry Networks, a high-end Ethernet manufacturer, in 2008, officials from Brocade said they are tapping a $26 billion (about Rs1,30,000crore)addressable market to offer alternative solutions that are cost effective and practical. "We are leveraging our current customers' trust and confidence level," said Gerald Penaflor, senior director of enterprise business, Brocade Asia Pacific.
Penaflor said the recent acquisition is a logical step towards enhancing its connectivity solutions. "We have been providing connectivity solutions for data centers for almost 15 years, so offering IP networks solutions gives us the opportunity to provide end-to-end networking solutions to clients," he added.
Despite the economic downturn, Penaflor said Brocade remains a stable company, registering 17 percent growth quarter-on-quarter and 43 percent year-on-year. "We realize that even during a crisis, people are still saving digital information, so we still have business," he explained.
With the deluge of information flowing through the Internet these days, Penaflor said a transformation of existing networks is necessary. "With so many people relying on the Internet using bandwidth-hungry applications such as photo and video, networks should be transformed in order to handle these kinds of processes," he suggested, adding that Brocade is a possible enabler of this transformation.
To address these issues, Brocade has launched new products that could further empower networks, Penaflor said. "By integrating the SAN and LAN spaces and putting them in one environment, we are driving the power of virtualization upward," he said. Brocade's Converged, Enhanced Ethernet (CEE), he added, combines the LAN and SAN switches into one unit, significantly reducing connectivity costs.
Other products Brocade is offering include the ServerIron ADX and TurboIron 24X and FastIron CX switches, and an offering called Power over Ethernet Plus, considered the next generation enabler of high power edge devices.
