Dell Launches Cloud-Based Services
Added 7th Jan 2010Dell's SaaS applications provide customers with cloud-based applications that aim to simplify and automate IT management and reduce overall IT costs.
The launch follows Dell's acquisition of Perot Systems . The new Dell SaaS applications add cloud-based IT services to the existing consulting, support and managed service capabilities of the new organization formed by the merger of Dell services and Perot system.
The portfolio of new SaaS applications stretches across three key IT infrastructure management areas:
1 Client Device Management -The SaaS applications is designed to help customers streamline labor-intensive tasks across locations of PC clients are on the Internet and without a dedicated VPN. It will allow enterprises replace manpower onsite with remote management over the cloud.
2 Remote Infrastructure Monitoring - Designed for customers that want to manage critical distributed IT systems, such as servers, applications, storage and network devices located in branch offices, this service includes heterogeneous hardware asset tracking, fault monitoring, performance monitoring and remote access for remediation.
3 Continuity and Compliance Management - Enhanced business continuity, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance by leveraging a global datacenter network to improve crisis communication, protect email from downtime and provide long-term message archiving. Applications and services include:
o Email Continuity
o Email Archive
o Email Security
o Emergency Notification
o Incident Collaboration
These services will automate common system management, remote monitoring and business continuity functions to reduce the cost and complexity of managing IT infrastructure.
According to Sameer Garde, Country General Manager for Dell India, "CIOs are struggling to reduce cost and complexity while maintaining expensive legacy systems and processes. With Dell's new services IT can leverage Software-as-a-Service to solve key issues around distributed device management, remote infrastructure monitoring, and business continuity and compliance."
Dell's been running a little over ten pilot projects for three months now and expects to get their first customer in January.
