Partnership allows Sify to provide VMware products and create customized hosted infrastructure for customers in a 'pay-as-you-go' model.

Sify Technologies , recently announced their partnership with VMware by which the company can expand its VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) in India. This enables Sify to provide on-demand hosting (cloud) services to end-customers using the VMware vSphere4 platform.

Sify now gets the option of 'renting' VMware software licenses on a monthly 'pay as you go' basis. This model is said to help Indian companies, both large and small, tap computing capacity inside and outside their firewalls - how, when and to the extent they want - to ensure quality of service for any application they want to run, internally or as a service.

The VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) is a base of the VMware's vCloudTM initiative. The VMware vCloud initiative brings together virtualization solutions in an ecosystem cloud service providers. The initiative is designed to enable compatibility for all applications running in the cloud, whether on or off premise. The press release said VMware works with hosting and cloud computing vendors to enable delivery on a common VMware platform. This gives the user choice in deploying applications, allowing easy transitions between providers, as well as on- and off-premise use.

"Our partnership with VMware enables us to offer Public, Private and Hybrid cloud to VMware customers for their Primary, Disaster Recovery (DR) or Business Continuity Program (BCP) proposition. The partnership also enables Sify to achieve certification and expertise on virtualization technology powered by VMware. This will give confidence to our customers that Sify Cloud Offerings are compliant for interoperability, quality, availability and security," said P. J. Nath, Executive President, Enterprise Business, Sify.

"With VSPP, we enable our partners like Sify to offer solutions that provide cost-effective, cloud-based virtualized infrastructure that meet the specific needs of their clients of all sizes through a simplified, easily accessible service model. This partnership will create new opportunities for them to offer virtualization enabled solutions, applications and services for their customers and sets the foundation for greater profitability and success," said T Srinivasan, MD, VMware India & SAARC.

This partnership is said to enable Sify address the increasing demand for on-demand computing in India, which is one of the fastest growing cloud computing markets in the Asia Pacific region.
