Digital Innovation Strategy
To carry out core insurance accounting and policy administration, Iffco Tokio GIC makes use of a COBOL based software called PolisyAsea (P400) that runs on AS400 mainframe platform of IBM.
In absence of SOA layer, this Software can be accessed only on computers connected to the Wide Area Network of IFFCO Tokio GIC, by installing a client software. The data integration from peripheral Systems to P-400 is possible only thru Message Queues. P-400 only provides a Character Mode User interface.
In Nov 2016, an SOA (Services Oriented Architecture) layer, named Rocket Software, was deployed on top of P-400. This Software generates a GUI-based form of the existing character based UI, to enable it to be used through any of the web browsers on Client machines. It also enables the direct interface between P-400 and peripheral systems through APIs or web services, generated using the Rocket Software. The SOAP web services enable posting of data in real time on P400 database, resulting in faster throughput.
This has resulted in improved customer experience for policy issuance, endorsements, and cancellations by end-users. Using the Rocket software, new products have been rolled out for sale by the Agents/intermediaries in the market, who can access it thru Web Browsers. The time to market has reduced substantially.
