Forbes Marshall deployed the Central Processing System (CPS) to usher a high level of automation, asset traceability, order status traceability, and generation of various certificates and reports – without manual intervention at any stage.
The objective of the system was to seamlessly integrate ERP and manufacturing processes to enable visibility and traceability of the products being manufactured – right from order to dispatch.
The company built a product configurator, which has the capability of configuring the products being ordered, enable automation of item code creation, bill of material creation, manufacturing routing creation in the ERP, and creation of serial numbers for all the products in the sales order.
Furthermore, its mobility solution automates the ERP transactions by scanning bar codes. For example material issue transaction, operation move and work order completion transaction can be done with bar code scanning. Lastly, Forbes Marshall also automated inputs from ERP to the machines.
Earlier, operators were required to check the readings and feed inputs manually for calibrating products, and this made the process susceptible to human errors. In order to eliminate these errors, a vision system was introduced to capture the pictures of the readings and convert them into inputs to calibration rigs.
The ability to give automatic inputs to calibration rigs completely eliminates any manual entry. This automatically generates test certificates for each product being manufactured. The job completion transaction in ERP is also automated by scanning the respective barcode.
