Govt. appoints Mrutyunjay Mahapatra as the CEO of Syndicate Bank

The government of India on Wednesday appointed Mrutyunjay Mahapatra, the former Dy. MD and CDO of State Bank of India, as the new CEO of Syndicate Bank.

Senior Banker Mrutyunjay Mahapatra has been appointed as the new CEO of one of the oldest and major commercial banks of India, Syndicate Bank. Mahapatra shared a picture on his official Twitter handle saying, 'Took over as CEO of Syndicate Bank. A new chapter after a long innings in SBI.'

According to reports, the government on Wednesday appointed the heads of 10 state-run banks as MD and CEOs out of which five are SBI Deputy Managing Directors and the remaining are Executive Directors of other PSBs.

Mahapatra has played a significant role in the digital transformation programmes in SBI. He has headed global strategy, payments, transactions, and transformation programmes of SBI as its Head of Strategy and Chief Digital Officer. Prior to that he was CIO of the bank, and handled IT, data, analytics, and innovation of India's largest bank the SBI Group.

He is also active in public speaking, writing columns in newspapers and periodicals, working on boards, long distance running and mentoring. A violin enthusiast, he plays Hindustani classical style of violin.
